Text Box: CELEBRATION OF EPIPHANY
Epiphany marks the climax of the Christmas season and the Twelve Days of Christmas which are counted from Dec. 25th, with Epiphany being on Jan. 6. The word "epiphany" means manifestation in Greek, and is defined as "to show", "to make known", or "to reveal".
Traditionally, it remembers the coming of the wise men bringing gifts to visit the Christ child and in doing so "revealed" Jesus to the world as Lord and King. As a part of the reformed tradition, we celebrate Epiphany as a period of time, a season of the church year. The season of Christmas begins with the first Sunday of Advent, marked by expectation and anticipation, and concludes with Epiphany, which looks ahead to the mission of the church to the world in light if the Nativity. The period between Christmas Day and Epiphany is called Christmastide. The season of Epiphany extends from Jan. 6th until Ash Wednesday, which begins the season of Lent leading to Easter.

ELDER CLASS OF 2009

JEWELL SMART BOGUE - Jewell has been a member of the church since 1996 when she moved to Marshall from the Baytown area.  She and her late husband, George Bogue, served the church faithfully together and Jewell has continued to do so since his death.  She serves as pianist for the Special Ministries Class, is active in Bunnie Mae Pugh Circle, and has served on several of the standing committees., and works in the food pantry.

LE ILA DIXON - Le Ila and her husband Charles became members of the church in 2005 after having attended regularly for more than 2 years and becoming active in the life of the church.  Le Ila sings in the choir, has directed the Children's Program (W.O.W., Christmas pageant), is active in Zula Boone Circle & Pres.-Elect of Women's Ministry.  She has also served on Christian Education Committee.

PEGGY SPENCER - Peggy is a retired teacher and wife of Dr. Bob Spencer, former Director of Music. We appreciate the willingness of these four to serve as elders for the class of 2009, and pray God will guide & bless them in their service.  They will be ordained and installed during morning worship today.
