Cumberland is once again planning a trip to Rio Bravo, Mexico, to help build several casitas ( homes), complete other projects as needed, and fellowship and witness to the people that we serve in Mexico. The trip is scheduled for June 6-12 and is open to all students who have completed the seventh grade through college students and their adult chaperones.

Registration forms are on the table in the Narthex and forms and a $100 deposit are due by April 15. This will include a copy of a passport, copy of medical insurance card and several signed forms.

The final cost of the trip will be from $100 to $185 depending on the money raised by fundraisers and the number of participants. This includes meals, lodging in Mexico, building materials, t-shirt, and fees and transportation to the destination.  An optional “free day” on Friday includes a hotel stay.

Cumberland will serve in partnership with Manos Juntas Mexico, a ministry of the United Methodist Church.  They maintain a permanent medical clinic in Rio Bravo which is located in Allende, Coahuila, Mexico, northeast of Nuevo Laredo and southwest of San Antonio.

The complex includes several short term missionary lodging facilities and the home offices of their Mexico construction ministry, which completes nearly 200 houses a year through the help of volunteers from numerous denominations.

The Manos Juntas Mexico ministry does all the groundwork; this includes screening and selecting the recipients of the homes, handling permits, getting the building materials on site and training a staff of local foremen and translators to work along side of the volunteers that come to work.

The volunteers provided the funds for building materials, the labor, and most importantly, our witness to the love of God through fellowship and service.

The group will be staying in one of the housing facilities managed by Manos Juntas.  Each room sleeps four in bunk beds, has private bath with hot water and air conditioning.
