BRAVO TO WOMEN'S MINISTRY

We applaud all women of our church who participated in Women's Ministry Sunday last week.  We especially want to thank Jewell Bogue, President, and our guest speaker Rev. Cardelia Howell-Diamond.  Highlights of the service were the presentation of the 1985 CPW Quilt to Jewell Bogue by Mary Jo Schnorbus, and presentation of a Golden Patron Membership to Elsie Pugh by Lynn Skinner and Nancy Green. The quilt originated with the Gladys Bryson Circle and had the names of 55 women embroidered on it.  Mary Jo acquired it in 1985 and is giving it back to Women's Ministry, in memory/honor of all names on the quilt.   The Golden Patron Membership represents a contribution of $150.00 to the denominational Missions Endowment Fund and is for women who have served the Cumberland Presbyterian Church for 50 years.  Elsie has served as pianist for all 50 years. She is an ordained elder, served on Worship Committee, and was a charter member of Bunnie Mae Pugh Circle,  which she helped organize.  We were once again reminded of how much work is done by women of our church, and we say a great big THANK YOU!

WOMEN'S MINISTRY QUARTERLY MEETING

About  22 women gathered for the first quarterly meeting of the 2009-2010 year.  President Jewel Bogue presided and welcomed guest speaker Marcy Roth, Executive Director of CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) for children.  Ms. Roth gave information about the program and encouraged us to get involved.  Tish Hudson spoke also, sharing her experience in serving as an advocate. If you are interested in the program, call Ms. Roth at 903/923-9224 or talk with Tish Hudson about it.  Refreshments were served by La Amistad Nueva Circle.  There were no recommendations made by the Executive Committee.

WOMEN'S MINISTRY QUARTERLY MEETING
About 22 women and Pastor Rusty gathered for the last quarterly meeting of 2008-2009 year.  Following a salad supper hosted by Gladys Bryson Circle, President LeIla Dixon presided over the meeting.  Jenann Leslie presented a very informative report on Convention.  The new theme "Gifted To Serve" was introduced (more on this later).  New officers elected and installed were Jewell Bogue, president;  Lynn Skinner, president-elect;  Teena Smith, secretary; Rose Mary Magrill, treasurer;  Shirley Jones, historian; and  LeIla Dixon, past president.

Programs initiated by Women’s Ministry are a weekly Prayer Group, Parent’s Night Out, Butterfly Gardening Group, and a monthly book club. Our women are very active and we encourage all women to join us.

Ladies in Action
