Women’s Ministry

The Trinity North Region Meeting on Saturday had 52 women present, from Longview First, Pine Tree, Elmira Chapel, Daingerfield, Jefferson, and Marshall Churches.  There were 23 present from Marshall - a great representation. A special thanks to Shirley Jones who was in charge of the food, to Lynn Skinner who is

President- Elect of the Regional WMCPC, to Sherry Burke who arranged the style show, and to the Executive Committee headed by Melissa Wilson who put it all together.  The highlight of the meeting was the presentation of Pam Phillips-Burk, director of Women's Ministry for the denominational Board of Missions.

Women's Ministry Sunday reminded us once again of the tremendous contribution that women make to the ministry of our church. Our appreciation to Rev. Dr. Pam Phillips-Burk, who preached, and to all who helped plan and were a part of the very meaningful worship service.

THE PASSING OF HOMER BROWNING

(FROM REV. MARK MCNEESE)

Chris Moore from Pine Hill CPC called this morning to tell me of the passing of Homer Browning, Elder of Pine Hill. Homer had been fighting cancer courageously for a few years. He died around 4:45am this morning. Arrangements are still being made. Homer and Joe Ben Irby are about the same age, 92 years young. Homer was known by everyone around Pine Hill for his "leadin the singin". Heaven is celebrating today this return of a great saint and servant in God's church. Janie B. is his wife. Homer's two sons, Lonnie (Canton) and Neuman (Winnsboro) are the immediate family. Please keep them in your prayers.
I remember one time Chris Moore and I moved Homer's green hymnal from its usual place in their pew. Homer had all the pages dog-eared back for quick requests. He was lost but only for awhile. He never missed a beat. Thanks be to God for this great man who now joins the great cloud of witnesses,

We are a Connectional Church

Each individual congregation in the Presbyterian system of government belongs to a regional group of churches.  This regional group of churches is called a Presbytery.  Ministers and representative elders from each congregation gather to decide how we can serve God better by working together.  Ministers are not local members of a congregation.  They belong to the Presbytery.  Each congregation is led by elders (presbyturos in Greek) who are elected by the congregation as representatives of the people.  We can do more together, with accountability to one another, than we would ever be able to do alone.
