The churches of Marshall band together to provide help with utilities, prescriptions (limited), transient housing, perishable food and more.  Also, we coordinate with other help agencies to stretch each dollar the farthest possible.  Counseling and prayer are offered also.  Helpers are needed throughout the week.  Contact Joey Hudson or Pastor Rusty.

“Whosoever will” is a motto of the Cumberland Presbyterian ChurchWe believe with all our hearts that the gospel has power to change lives for the better.  The personal relationship with God is the most important message we can share with lonely and unfulfilled lives.  Various ways, old and new, are used to try and communicate this old, old story of Jesus and his love.  The gospel is not meant to be hoarded.  Our mandate is to go into all the world.  Part of that world is here with our friends, relatives, associates, and neighbors right here in Marshall & Harrison County.  And we must be sensitive to the needs around us in our to be believable.  Thanksgiving becomes thanks living in a very important way if we do.

Boys and Girls Club—Kids Café

Want to help feed children in our community who need a warm meal?  Bryan Partee, the director of the Boys and Girls Club, and many volunteers, including the women’s circles have found a way to help.   It is called Kids Café.   Call the Boys and Girls Club or the church office.   Contributions and volunteers are always needed.

HABITAT HOUSE #6 started on Saturday, March 24, 2007.  Meet at 8 a.m. on Saturdays to help with this effort. Get involved.

An evacuee says thank you!

Dear Rev. Rustenhaven,

You probably won’t remember us, but my sister and I spent the night of Hurricane Rita with you last year.  (I even left my poncho with you!)   We’ll never be able to thank you enough.   She was a real wreck!

Anyhow, I was walking through Wal-mart the other day and saw these dominoes and thought of you all and how wonderful you’ve been to refugees like us!  Enjoy.  If you’d rather have different sets please don’t hesitate to exchange them at Wal-mart.

                      Lola Stark and Jean Farver

Note: As I remember them, they slept near the stairs near the rest rooms.  One of these ladies was on her way to do a seminar in Dallas.   The other one came along for the ride.   Either way, it is nice that they thought of us again.

Each year our church participates in the Souper Bowl of Caring on Super Bowl Sunday offering.   Check out this fine organization online at www.souperbowl.org

Text Box: Can you help Drive?

From time to time we receive a call from someone in the community who needs a ride to church. Also, there are times when parents are unable to get their children to Sunday School or WOW. We need a flexible driver’s list of those who can serve in this way. Call the church office if you would be willing. As I said Sunday, many people in our community need what we have to offer here at our church. Help us grow together! Pastor Rusty

Keep up the Good Work this year!

In planning ahead for this year, I was looking at the denominational calendar that is published with pictures and denominational key dates.   The July picture is of a messy gym with mattresses on the floor everywhere with towels and clothes hanging off of chairs.    It is a picture of our gym, Hutchins Hall, when we hosted the evacuees in 2005.   The caption says, “Cumberland Presbyterians from throughout the world reached out to the victims of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.   Pictured is the Cumberland Church in Marshall, TX, which housed evacuees.“   The scripture passage is Psalm 57:1 which says, “Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me, for in you my soul takes refuge; in the shadow of your wings I will take refuge, until the destroying storms pass by.”   We did not plan to host in our gym, but I believe God moved us to be His representatives.    Watch and be ready for the next time God moves us to serve in ways that are not expected.   He is ready to give us opportunity after opportunity.   Keep up the good work as we head into 2007.      Pastor Rusty
