People:             We will prepare the way for One who is coming.

We look forward to baptism in the Spirit.

Leader:             God will feed us like a shepherd.

Our Confession of Sin and Assurance of Pardon

Call to Confession

Righteous and holy God, your glory is revealed to us day by day as valleys of despair are lifted up and mountainous problems are leveled.  In your presence, we see more than our immediate situation.  We catch a glimpse of your eternal purposes.  So come among us now and speak your word of peace.  Feed us with your truth, and equip us to welcome Christ’s coming.  Amen.

Prayer of Confession  (in silence)

Assurance of Forgiveness

God speaks tenderly to us and assures us that our debt has been paid, our sins forgiven, our paths made straight.  God’s glory is waiting to burst into the midst of all who accept the good news.  Surely our salvation is at hand.  Faithfulness will spring up from the ground, and righteousness will look down from the sky.  Enjoy the baptism of the Holy Spirit!

Offertory Sentences

One way we prepare for Christ’s appearance is to support the church’s mission in our community and beyond.  Our church’s programs share good news, our outreach provides comfort and practical help, and our goals are nothing less than newness of life for all God’s children.  May our gifts reflect God’s generosity.

Anthem                                   “Still, Still, Still”                     arr. Norman Luboff                                                                                                  Chancel Choir

Still, still, still one can hear the falling snow.

For all is hushed, the world is sleeping,

                                       Holy Star its vigil keeping.

Still, still, still one can hear the falling snow.

Sleep, sleep, sleep, ‘tis the eve of our Saviour’s birth.

The night is peaceful all around you,

Close your eyes, let sleep surround you.

Sleep, sleep, sleep, ‘tis the eve of our Saviour’s birth.

Dream, dream, dream of the joyous day to come.

                                       While guardian angels without number

Watch you as you sweetly slumber.

Dream, dream, dream of the joyous day to come.
