Text Box: Ways to Become a Member of Our Church

Perhaps you have considered becoming a member of this church, but you are not sure what to do.   Here are the ways to join our church:

1. Profession of FaithThis is for people who publicly declare Jesus as Lord and Savior of their lives.

2. Transfer of Letter—Many sister denominations will send a letter acknowledging your former church standing and we as a  denomination will do the same.

3. Reaffirmation of Faith—Some denominations do not send letters to other denominations when a person transfers their membership.   In this situation we do not hinder you from joining our church because of this.

We extend an invitation each Sunday morning and this is a great place to make your commitment public.

Who are these Cumberland Presbyterians?
God wants to have a relationship with us.

Why should I consider joining the Marshall Church?

We at the Cumberland Presbyterian Church of Marshall want the church to grow spiritually and numerically.    We have a lot we want to do for God here, and we need dedicated folks to join us in serving Him.   But we want you to make an informed decision before you consider joining us.   Thus, from time to time we provide a “Cumberland Presbyterian Basics” class.    Frequently asked questions that we will address are:

What do you have to do if you want to be a Christian?

What is the difference between Cumberland Presbyterians and other Presbyterians?

Why do we baptize by sprinkling and others by immersion?

What do some of the “churchy” words like, trinity, sanctification, sanctuary, etc. mean?

Our study of “Cumberland Presbyterian Basics” begins this Sunday (February 1) at 9:45 in the Parlor, near the Sanctuary.   If you are considering joining the church, this class could be a great orientation.  Or, perhaps you have joined recently, before this class was available, and now you are ready to know more about our church beliefs and ministries.  Or perhaps you have started this class before but never finished it.    Or, you may already be a member and this will be a great review, and will help those who are not members feel less uncomfortable. Or your spouse is a member, but for some reason you never made the decision to join.   No matter the reason, we would love for you to be here.  We will conclude this study on Sunday, March 8.

Of course, we plan to have a good time too!   Friends and family are always invited.    Bring your questions with you and we hope to see you Sunday.   Of course, if you would rather join without attending the class, you are always free to do so.   I have included a list of ways one can join a Cumberland Presbyterian church and a list of membership vows, if that is your desire.    However, if by further investigation, we are not your choice, we will not pressure you, and will wait until you are ready.   Until then, we will continue to provide these class opportunities from time to time.     Come and grow with us!
