Today’s Sacrifices Yield Tomorrow’s Leaders “The tuition assistance I have received from my fellow Cumberland Presbyterians will enable me to assist them in the future.”
This is how Christian Smith, MTS student and “stated supply” pastor of Bates Hill Cumberland Presbyterian in McMinnville, TN, wants to thank you for your gifts, which pay a portion of his seminary tuition. Smith, a Master of Divinity student slated to graduate on May 12th, hopes to participate more fully in his pastoral leadership role at Bates Hill after ordination.
The sacrifices you have made to help provide tuition assistance to Smith and other CP students at MTS is mirrored in the sacrifices Smith has made over the past three years. For example, in this final semester, he leaves his wife and home in McMinnville at 3:30 a.m. Tuesday mornings, spends the night in on-campus housing, and returns home Wednesdays at 5:00 p.m.
Christian Smith says he chose MTS as a way to support the seminary of his denomination. He believes he has grown significantly in his theology, and appreciates the learning experience he has had at the seminary. Through your support, you have been a part of these experiences.
On Sunday, March 4th, you will be asked to participate in Theological Education Sunday, a day set aside to offer a gift to the seminary in support of young men and women who, like Christian, have been called into ministry. We hope you will join all Cumberland Presbyterian churches on this special day.
Please join us in congratulating the 2006 CP Seminary graduates: Ted Bane, Melissa Goodloe, Cardelia Howell-Diamond, Bill Montague, Dee Ann Thompson, Tim Smith and Carey Womack.
